2 weeks ago I became the proud new godmother of a baby girl named Maxine... I am very excited because I do admit that sewing for little girls can be more exciting than for little boys. It's not that you can't find nice patterns out there for boys, it's just that there is so much more variety in fabrics, patterns and notions that makes it so much more exciting. You also can't ignore the fact that girls appreciate a nice dress so much more than boys like a new pair of pants...
I made Maxine a variety of presents of which I will present the first one today... As my cousin, who is Maxine's mum was still looking for some decorations for her bedroom I made a a small pink detail wall weaving. I figured it wasn't too baby-like so she could probably keep it on her wall until she's well in her teens.
Hopefully this will bring the finishing touch to the little one's room...
My latest obsession is all in line with the anthropologie boho craze I'm so inspired by. It's only been a few months since I first discovered Maryanne Moodie, THE weaving it girl of the moment. I'm in total awe for her colour coordination and weaving techniques every time I come across them online. I had been doing some weaving research over the past few months and found quite a few interesting videos and blogs.
It wasn't until I came across the brilliant girls of Honestly WTF that I couldn't resist making my very own wall hanging. As I was a weaving virgin I played it safe and followed Erica's weaving tutorial step by step. I decided to stay in the turqoise colour scheme, as to fit in with the rest of my interior. I'm so proud of the result!
After I finished my first wall hanging I straight away started a second one... This time I was inspired by Maryanne Moodie and went for more tassles and some pompoms.
I still have another wall hanging on my bucket list which I plan to make for our bedroom. This time I will work with more rusty, nude and beige colours...
Babies are expensive... There's no denying it! Up until a few months ago I had no clue that a jacket for a 3 month old can buy you a week's worth of groceries...
Not that that's what I would pay... Natty thrifting queen has been busy checking out every possibility on saving money, without giving in on quality.
First of all I checked out our local classified. It's amazing what you can find on there... I have to admit it can be quite a frustrating business but with a some patience and a bit of luck you can find really nice stuff. I found a baby bed and changing table as well as a baby swing , all in very good condition, for a fraction of the retail price.
I also discovered a few amazing second hand hand baby clothes shops in Brussels. And I'm not talking Salvation Army... Some shops sell very nice brands like Jacadi, Gold Belgium, Bonpoint....
Of course I also make quite a bit myself!
And today I did some furniture upscaling... We had some old drawers in our guest bedroom, furniture we received from my husband's company years ago. It was quite ugly to be honest, not even in real wood I think. The drawers were still in quite good condition though and I thought it would be a shame to get rid of it. I especially didn't want to splurge on expensive new furniture.
The drawers were ideal though for a good old fashioned make over. I mean, what is there to loose if something does go wrong?
We, actually my dad started off by giving the whole chest a nice white coat. I would have loved to do it myself but figured it was probably not the good to get in contact with paint, being pregnant... Anyway, I found these cute blue doorknobs in Zara Home which I thought looked very nice against the white background. In the craft shop I found wooden templates which I painted and varnished and stuck on the middle drawer.
Now let's start on the second one...
I don't know about you but I am completely besotted by Pinterest. Yes, you can call me a Pinterest addict. I wake up in the morning, open up my laptop and as soon as I type the letter P my creative brain goes bonkers with excitement from all the ideas it has to process.
Last week I saw a photo of a nice kitchen coffee station. With 2 espresso makers (yes, my husband prefers the Italian style whereas love my flavored Nespresso) and a cupboard without much purpose except from collecting rubbish I thought it would be the perfect spot to create our own coffee station.

Summer is officially over! The temperatures have finally dropped below 30 degrees and the evenings are cooling down, perfect for a barbecue gettogether...
So,I’ve been busy...Even though our garden looks beautiful (courtesy to my husband), I thought it could do with a bit of glamming up.
Over the last few days I’ve been busy sewing a new tablecloth with matching placemats. I made the tablecloth in oilcloth as I thought it would be more practical for the garden.I rimmed the tablecloth with 2 different ribbons and I also sewed on some crocheted flowers (with I didn’t make myself). For the placemats I used silk which I bought from jim Thompson’s outlet store in Bangkok. I love the lime green colour, it really freshens up your day!
And then there’s my finishing touch... I finally had my leaf garlands hung up and they are... amazing!!!
It was love at first side and I really had to get my hands on these lamps! As our shade sail is quite large I used 2 strands to cover every side.
